This is the jumper that I bought at the same time as this dress. I saw it on Andrea’s blog and just had to get it. It’s a bit short so I’ve paired it with a longer top so I don’t flash my belly at everyone.
We went for a wonder by the river as it’s near Photographique and Daz had to take some films to be developed. I *love* autumn sunshine :) The trees are all changing and there are so many wonderful colours around.
We were sitting in the living room the other day and had the feeling we were being watched. Oscar was on the roof looking through the window! He was zooming off by the time I got my camera out.
It’s been so hot here and Pixie loves it. She’s spending all her time outside.
Arty isn’t a fan of the heat and spends most of his time asleep or grumpily flouncing around looking fed up. He does like to sleep on damp towels though so we’ll have to keep him supplied with them and hopefully he’ll be happier.

I will choose a random winner on my birthday which is the 3rd of October
I was watching Doctor Who on Saturday and found myself drawing the Doctor. Who can resist a cat in a tweed jacket? I then thought I might as well draw Amy, River and Rory as well. It was good fun to base cats on human (and timelord) characters rather than just making them up.
For those who don’t know what I’m on about, here’s a photo of all four of them together. I chose outfits from more recent episodes than this for my drawings.
River, Rory, The Doctor, Amy
Now I’m wondering what other characters I can turn into cats. How about Buffy and Angel, the Fringe characters, or cats of LOST?
This week’s cat isn’t one of ours, it’s a cat we met on Wednesday. We went to St Werburghs City Farm for a wonder. It’s a small place with a few animals and birds. I love going in the spring when there are piglets and kids (baby goats not little humans).
There used to be a lovely black cat called Murphy on the farm but we haven’t seen him for a while. I was overjoyed when I spied this little kitty in one of the empty pens. She was so relaxed and enjoying the sun. We had fun playing with a stick by mostly she just wanted to lay upside down. She was like a little leopard.
This goat kept sticking it’s head through the fence and chewing my bag whilst I was taking photos.
Over the past day I’ve been cutting, folding and packaging lots and lots of cute little mini-cards! They measure about 10cm x 7cm and come with envelopes. They’re perfect for sending notes, thank yous and RSVPs. Their size also means they cost less than my bigger cards which is always good! I’m selling them in packs which means much better value for money. You can find them in the Doodlecats Etsy Shop.
The wonderful Andrea of Papersparrow kindly featured me in her Cat-tastic Blog Party yesterday!! You should head on over there and check out the great selection of cat posts on her blog right now, you won’t be disappointed. Andrea creates lovely whimsical animal doodles, sews fantastic clothes and her blog is a great read.
There’s also a fantastic giveaway that you should enter to win all sorts of wonderful things.
What I enjoyed most about the blog party was discovering lots of other cat people who make fantastic stuff with cats on! It’s comforting to know I’m not the only crazy crafty cat lady out there! I made a treasury featuring some of the wonderful stuff I discovered yesterday.
Most cat owners slaves will know by now that the chances are the more you spend on a toy, the less the cats will like it. That’s so true for ours! I buy them lots of toys, especially cute ones with catnip in but none of them are ever as popular as a scrappy bit of fabric filled with home-grown catnip!
I grow catnip in the garden, it’s super easy and you can grow lots with little effort. See previous blog post about my plant. Once it’s dry I put some into toys. In the past I’ve made cute little mice etc but they get ripped to shreds or drooled all over and it’s really not worth it. The most simple thing to do is make fabric pouches to sew catnip into.
I used some plain thickish cotton fabric. It needs to be strong enough to put up with being chewed but not so thick that the aroma can’t seep through.
I use zigzag stitch so that the fabric doesn’t fray. Sew around three edges so you have a pouch.
Then fill with catnip. Stuff loads in, it will break down over time. I put everything but the stalks in.
Once it’s filled up, go round all the edges a few times with zigzag stitch and you’re done. It doesn’t look pretty but after they’ve been chewing on it and soaking it with kitty drool you’ll be glad you didn’t go to a lot of effort to make it look nice!
Thanks to Pixie for being so helpful in all the photos!
Here’s Arty being product tester. I tried to get it off him to show you how soggy and chewed it gets but he wouldn’t let me! We have some pouches that have lasted over a year and are still regularly played with. I usually end up throwing them out when they look so horrible I can’t bare to have them cluttering up the house and I make them new ones.
Happy Caturday! It’s finally sunny here, the cats were so fed up with being stuck indoors due to the rain. Daz and I are off to Devon to see my family, I hope it stays sunny!
Daz works from home and Arty loves to ‘help’. The moment Daz gets up to make a cup of coffee, Arty always steals his seat! It’s pretty difficult to get him to give up the seat once he’s there.
Oscar has been learning to play a lot more this week. When he first moved in he was scared of toys. This week he’s been playing with a feather on a string and a ribbon, enjoying both immensely. A scrunched up piece of paper still remains his favourite!
Pixie didn’t want he photo taken this morning, she was too busy running off on her latest adventure. Next Caturday will be her 5th birthday!!
